Considering to upgrade to magento 2? we have few tips to share with you. Magento 2 any better? definitely Yes.

Although magento 2 has been around for 2 years now, many ecommerce owners are still contemplating whether upgrading to magento 2 is worth it.

Hopefully this article helps you to make the right decisions.

Whats new in Magento 2?

We believe it is fair to say, everything is new magento 2 compared to magento 1.

Magento 2 brings fundamental changes in the well known ecommerce platform, beyond overall functionality enhancements, it has major improvements:

  • On technical level,
  • in modularity,
  • perfomance
  • much better UI design

Magento 1 VS magento 2 – Should i upgrade now?

If you magento 1.x version ecommerce store :

  • Running smoothly,
  • has no problematic features,
  • generates sales and revenue
  • and running under a version that is not outdated

then at least wait few more months or even years as there is no rush to upgrade to magento 2.  however you should already start planning if you’re thinking long term.

Do we recommend you to upgrade right now?

Well, unexpectedly our answers is “No”, we are still unsure that if the magento 2 is stable enough, many might disagree with us, in fact, Magento 1.9.x version had many issues  but seems its all stable now.

and not many magento 2 extensions are available in the marketplace right now. so we recommend you to stay with magento 1.9.x version for few months at least.

However we recommend upgrading urgently if:

  • your current ecommerce store has performance issues,
  • you’re planning to start new ecommerce business,
  • you’re planning to implement major modification,
  • you’re current ecommerce platform running smoothly, but on an outdated version

but it might be still worth upgrading to magento 2 even if you have absolutely no problems with the current system, aren’t planning to modification and your version is not yet outdated.

Confused…. and Why?

because Magento 2 offers a number of new features, opportunities, and innovations that can make growth and serving your customers possible in ways not available until now.

How problematic is migrating your ecommerce store to Magento 2?

Let’s face it: Migrating is never painless, even when you’re migrating between two versions of the same system.

On upgrading from Magento 1 to Magento 2, you can transfer products, attributes, databases – otherwise no one would consider migrating.

However, you have to leave all the customised features and design behind – So this means, if you want all these features you have right now, you have to build them again.

But this may be an opportunity.

Yes, it means extra work and cost for your business but at the same time, it encourages you to make the improvements wherever possible.

and it’s great opportunity to reconsider:

  • Whether you have done everything in the best possible way,
  • any redundant features in your store,
  • if any missing features you want add for a long time,
  • and improve your online store in general

Magento 2 has brought many improvments.

But since having to tackle some difficulties and develop new features are inevitable when migrate an online store, smaller business might want to wait a little.

Still, a new major release was inevitable, and it’s not a good idea to hold on to older versions for too long.

Migrating the database between the two system won’t be a problem especially with the Data Migration tool by magento.

Migrating product, customer, order and etc. Data will likely go smoothly.

But it’s a good idea to entrust an experts (jeyprojects), with carrying out the process and handling your online business most valuable assets, your database.

When will Magento 1.x become outdated?

The fact that Magento will cease official support for its 1.x versions makes a Magento 2 platform the right choice for those planning to launch new ecommerce stores.

The functionality of earlier versions can practically only be expanded by customized solutions.

Migration is basically inevitable, since only Magento 2 will have official support.

It’s not that the technology itself becomes obsolete in such a short time – Magento 1.x versions might actually prove to be a good choice in terms of efficiency.

Security is the real issue here

Since Magento will end its official support for Magento 1.x versions.

there might be an increase in the number of malicious software that target vulnerabilities discovered after the release of the last security patches.
